About Us

Carla Vaetoe – Owner & Funeral Director

I’m a Mother of 5 amazing children ranging from 10 to 23yrs.

We want to be able to make a difference to those families that are dealing with grief and the loss of a loved one.

I am passionate about the work I do with Families and feel incredibly humbled to be able to do what I do.

The main reason for getting into this industry was through the experience we had with my Grandad when he passed, there wasn’t options or choices just a large bill to pay at the end feeling a little cheated on how we would have liked to send Poppa off, our concerns or questions not answered or explained – the thought of others going through what we did didn’t sit well with me nor did I want any of my friends or family to have that burden, being “a number” comes to mind during that time.

Simply Cremations Waikato & Auckland is one of four Funeral and Bereavement Businesses in our Family.

We also own Simplicity Bereavement Services in the Waikato, Simply Cremations Bay of Plenty / Coromandel and Melrose Funeral Home in Tauranga which covers the Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Coromandel Areas.

We offer Families personalised arrangements going the extra mile to make sure the process is as stress free as possible making sure your loved one is treated with the utmost respect and care for their final journey.

We are available 24/7 to provide all the support and advice required and answer all the questions you may have during this difficult time.

At these times, emotions run high, grief is incredibly hard to manage and our priority is to help in any way possible to guide you throughout the entire process.

I’d like to believe we bring a fresh approach to the Funeral Industry treating each individual with not only the compassion but the guidance to have their wishes adhere to. How ever if there is uncertainty in what is actually needed or wanted then that’s our place to guide you through.

Gayle Melrose – Owner & Funeral Director

I began my working life in the medical world at the Auckland Hospital in 1969. My position was in the Histopathology laboratory dealing with surgical and post mortem tissues in preparation for the pathologist diagnosis.

I left the laboratories to begin my family and re-entered that profession in the 1980 and 1990’s. I branched out into other careers in Travel and then Marketing and Sales to Corporate Companies and in the offshore super yacht industry where my sporting passion in the yachting arena proved beneficial.

I have two daughters and a large family of grandchildren and close immediate family, with two sisters and a brother. Two of my siblings reside in the BOP.

The move to the funeral home business was instigated by losing 3 special people in my life, my husband at age 43 years, my mother and recently my father of 95 years. The service we received on all three funerals was of a high standard in both services and support.

I would love to carry that same high standard of service and support to families who choose our funeral home for their loved ones.

Phil Turner – Owner & Funeral Director

I was born and raised in Tauranga where my partner Carla and I live with our children.

I have worked directly with a wide range of people from all walks of life over the last 15 years as part of my work in the funeral industry, within local government as well as my involvement in the community through our other businesses.

It has enabled me to form relationships with businesses, key stakeholders and various community groups.

Experience has given me the skills and knowledge to offer understanding and guidance while respecting all different cultural and religious values. Expertise in people management, navigating problems and finding solutions.

I feel very humbled and privileged by the opportunity to help guide families through a difficult time in dealing with the arrangements for their loved ones.

My goal is to continue to provide a personalised professional service and a relaxed and culturally safe environment for families that allows them to be involved as much as possible and to encourage pre planning of funerals to help eliminate pressures and stresses associated during these precious final moments with loved ones.
